Dear MTUESD community,

I hope you had a wonderful Spring break. We are putting our heads down and pushing hard for this last academic period of the school year. I know kids kind of feel like once the heat and fair hits, school is over, but that’s not the case. We still have a lot of learning to do.

Summer school sign-ups are still being accepted. This is an incredible recreational and academic opportunity for your student. Please sign up. The kids will enjoy offerings such as Fire Camp for the littles, as well as the older kids, and all kinds of recreational activities including jujutsu, ceramics, makerspace, PE, and art. In a private school, you’d be paying a couple thousand bucks for a summer program like this. Let us do it for free. Your kid will get some great small group instruction and a wonderful summer of fun too.  We pay for this out of the restricted ELOP money, so I am delighted that our kids get a little hot fudge programming out of it!

Please complete the household income survey on the application packets and also for the start of school.  I know I sound like a broken record, but we need those returned because it helps us with our funding. Right now, we’re 65% free and reduced. What that means for me is that extra money from the state helps ALL kids. Please, it’s not anything I’m going to look at. You’re just one piece of a puzzle, but we put that data into the state for money. Help me out here, folks.

Next year, our registration process will be automated. If you have a student at Bret Harte, it is similar. You are required to upload a proof of address. If you do not currently live in our community, you will need to fill out a transfer. We grant transfers based on space in each grade and available programs. If you need more information about the transfer process, please reach out to Courtney Stamatis at cstamatis@mtwain.k12.ca.us. It is better to do it sooner, rather than later, so you are in the queue. We have some grades that are impacted and we might not be able to honor the transfer, but we will do the best we can. The transfer is good for one year and needs to be completed annually.

The Bridges classroom design is underway. I’m delighted that Eric Peters is going to lead this effort next year. We are creating this program for a small group environment for students in grades 5-8 who just need a more supportive learning space. This is not a punitive program but a skills-based program in order to help students be more successful in the mainstream environment. If you’d like more information about that, please reach out to me at  lsimson@mtwain.k12.ca.us.

Many important days are coming up so pay attention to the sites’ dialers so you don’t miss anything!

Also, just a reminder for our current 6th grade families, prior to 7th grade, we need to have verification of the booster for the DTaP/Tdap vaccine.  This isn’t my rule, it is the State’s, so please don’t wait for the last minute to get them done.  Make appointments early so you have the verification.  If you have any questions, please contact school Nurse Logan Robbins at lrobbins@mtwain.k12.ca.us.

JOIN US FOR ELAC NEXT TUESDAY AT 5:30 in the MT Library!

Have a wonderful and safe weekend ahead!

Sincerely yours,
