Dear MTUESD Community,

It is hard to believe, but the winter break is upon us!  The art, activities, and festive atmosphere of the past two weeks just added to the magic of the season, and you can see the excitement in students’ eyes!

Holidays can be so wonderful but also a lot of pressure too.  We are very grateful to the congregation of Vine and Branch for their amazing Blessing Tree that supported gifts for more than 60 families.  Truly a gift from the heart.  We appreciate Pastor Muettierties and Cristi Canepa for their coordination and championship of this effort and the congregation for this beautiful act of service.

I want to thank the families that are participating in the after-school Attendance Recovery programs. We’re seeing solid growth in achievement with those students who are receiving that extra enrichment time and we are hopeful that combining those hours into the state minimum “four-hour day” will provide some additional monetary benefit to the district through the ADA repayment. I want to remind everyone that even though this is a festive holiday time, school is still in session, and it is important that every student attends every day. It’s not just about the money. If your kid isn’t here, they get behind. Mark your calendar and we look forward to seeing your student when school resumes on Monday, January 5.

Summer school plans are underway and will have more information about that in February. If I can confirm staffing at Copper, I would love to run a program down there too, but we need to make sure we have enough staff members that can cover it.

Our first Saturday School is January 10.  This program is designed to provide a community service opportunity for students that may not be responding to changing their behavior through traditional detention or suspension models.

I’d like to take a moment and once again thank our district staff for their hard work and commitment and to the many families and volunteers that work diligently with our students in partnership with the staff.

The motto that I see embodied everyday:

Every Student.  Every Day.  Every Possibility.

Wishing you all a joyful holiday and a Happy New Year! Be safe and ENJOY!

Sincerely yours,

Louise Simson
