Dear MTUESD Community,

We are in the official home stretch!  What a wonderful year it has been to work with such a stellar group of students, staff, and community. We have come out of the cocoon and have created together a beautiful metamorphosis in our facilities, culture, expectation and achievement.   I am proud to say that our preliminary state-wide testing results are showing upward strength and improvement. I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Sarah Tuthill, Jana Taylor, and Jenn Ashworth for their hard work in coordinating our testing sessions and protocols. I also extend my hand and my thanks to our many parents who supported the testing process. Those results are the public face of our school, and I’m delighted to see the increase in scores. We aren’t out of the woods yet, but we sure are headed in the right direction.  We are still awaiting about thirty reports, but when we have some unofficial results to share, we will be in touch!

I had a great time last Friday night with Michelle Whittier and Kacy Barnett chaperoning the sixth-grade dance in the café and Copperopolis held a daytime dance this week, supported by the PTC!  Great fun was had by all. We had awards night and the sixth-grade farewell at Copper is on the books for next week. That all impressive eighth grade trip to Six Flags will be tomorrow and it is a LONG day. I want to thank our transportation staff, run by Billy Sundling.  Our crew is lean and mean (in the most complimentary sense of digging in and getting it done) and makes these events happen despite a shortage of bus drivers that is nationwide. We are super grateful how everyone holds the students' experiences and traditions in such high regard to make it happen whenever possible.

A huge thank you in advance to our eighth-grade families, who have been on a planning binge to create an evening to remember with a beautiful promotion ceremony prepared by Jeff Airola and the eighth-grade team, followed by a dance at the fairgrounds.

We take a little break and then we’re right back at it for summer school. Somehow, our maintenance staff, led by Ken Malvini, still finds time to do replacement work and deep cleaning. This will include several rooms across the district receiving fresh carpeting. We will touch up the paint and do some re-sealing of the parking lots and other things that we can’t do when kids are here.  Our last two playgrounds are in design progress.

I am very proud of this little district. We don’t have a lot, but boy we make a good run with what we got. The improvement in expectation and achievement in our district isn’t defined by money, it’s defined by heart and my heart is proud of the effort of ALL this year.

To our families of Bret Harte seniors, congratulations and we hope that you enjoy this important milestone in their life and yours. A job well done for you all!  Kindergarten seems like just a day ago…

To our eighth-grade class, I am proud of you. May your transition from a Badger to a Bullfrog be filled with excitement and learning, and may you always be the role models and a guiding force to support the younger Badgers you leave behind.

We look forward to seeing all you can become…

Sincerely yours,

Louise Simson
