At the last MTUESD Board Meeting, the Board Members announced their selection for the new superintendent. Their decision was made following a thoughtful review of all of the stakeholders' input and a thorough examination of a large number of qualified candidates. The Board is very pleased to announce that Mrs. Paula Wyant will serve as the new educational leader of Mark Twain Union Elementary School District.
Mrs. Wyant currently serves as the principal of a TK-8 school located on the largest Indian Reservation in Hoopa, Humboldt County. Wyant is a champion of rural education with an extensive professional background, which includes serving as a Superintendent Principal, Special Education Director, Principal and as a teacher. She is looking forward to joining our community and is eager to provide creative and dynamic leadership for our District. Due to our current circumstances, we are currently unable to give Mrs. Wyant the in-person MTUESD welcome that she deserves, but she is eager to visit and begin establishing roots in our community as soon as possible.
I am very grateful that our District will be led by such an accomplished and child-centered superintendent. This year has brought our District, state and nation as a whole, unique and unprecedented challenges. I am incredibly proud of the quick response of our staff to shift to a distance learning model to continue to provide a quality education for our students. I am also thankful for the support and flexibility of our families, who despite facing their challenges during the COVID crisis are demonstrating their dedication to working as a team with our staff. Mrs. Wyant will assume the leadership of an amazing school district.
